Rally in the Valley Details

23 04 2008

*UPDATES:

A few things to keep you up-to-date:

1) We will be taking a 15 passenger van as part of our convoy. A licensed adult will be driving, but if you still have safety concerns about your teen being in this vehicle, let me know and we can try and fit them into to one of the other vehicles.

2) Our group is never able to ‘wander’ on their own (during free time, etc) — your children will be well-supervised during the entire weekend, and that includes time at the mall and so on.

3) Our hotel has a pool and water-slide, so remind your kids to bring a swim suit!

4) If you have an emergency and need to get a hold of your child while he/she is at the rally, you can contact me on my cell (461-5696) or my wife’s cell (471-7618)

Thanks!

Hi folks!

Here’s some final details concerning Rally in the Valley. If you have any further questions, feel free to leave a comment or email me (markbrewer@nb.aibn.com)

  • We’re leaving from the church @ 3:30pm on Friday, May 2nd, so be sure to have your kids dropped off before then.
  • We’re planning to arrive back at the church @ app. 10pm on Saturday, May 3rd.
  • The $75 dollars covers transportation, hotel, 3 meals on Saturday and entrance to the rally. You may want to make sure that your teen has some spending money for snacks, the mall, etc. Rally t-shirts will also be available for $15. (I will have some of these at youth this week for sale, as well)
  • We’re traveling up with a variety of cars and vans; we’re still working on the final details for this, but you can be sure that we’ll have responsible drivers at the helm of each vehicle!
  • We’re staying at the new Hampton Inn and Suites in Saint John (near the McAllistar mall area // 506.657.4600). Girls and guys will be separated while in the hotel, and will be well-chaperoned.

It’s gonna be a blast! Again, if you have any other questions, please let me know. Thanks!

Take the Plunge

16 04 2008

During our Sunday morning services on April 27th we will be filling up the tank and taking the time to baptize any interested participants — we’ve had a great year at Olivet (and at the Shakedown) and God has worked in some awesome ways. Baptism is a great way to express what God has done in your life–it’s a very cool experience!

If you think your teen(s) would be interested in baptism, this would be a great opportunity for them to take the plunge! You can phone the church (452-7110) or email me (markbrewer@nb.aibn.com) or just leave a comment on the blog if you have any thoughts of questions. Thanks!

Bowl-A-Thon Update

15 04 2008

Hey all! Just wanted to let you know that we raised over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS at the Bowl-A-Thon! Woo-hoo! The technical amount we made was $2073, which is awesome. Thanks for your help with this event–your pledges, the encouragement to your kids to get them to raise money, and so on. Their money is now sitting in their youth account, awaiting the next great youth event. :)

A Note from Pastor Mark

11 04 2008

A few of you are aware of a game that we played at youth last week that involved playing loud, energetic music. Unfortunately, this was not a well-planned game, and some of the music involved was not appropriate for our church setting.

Though very few lyrics were actually heard during the game, the kids still heard the songs and knew what artists they were by and could have easily been given the impression that “Pastor Mark and Olivet thinks these songs are OK, so they must be.”  Simply because these songs are the popular songs on the radio right now doesn’t make it right for us to use them at youth.

I apologize for this, and thank you for your concern. We will continue to work hard at pointing your teens to Jesus and making sure the music we use at youth helps us accomplish this important goal.

God Bless,

Pastor Mark

Bowl-A-Thon – April 4th

3 04 2008
  • When: This Friday night! Drop your kids off at Kingswood by 7pm and pick them up at 9pm. You can stay and hang out if you want…but feel no pressure!
  • They can bring the money they raised to youth on Thursday night or to the Bowl-a-Thon on Friday; please try to have all the money gathered at that time along with the pledge sheet(ie. let’s avoid “I raised $500, but I’ll have to give you $450 of that next week sometime”) NOTE: I realize that for some of you, this won’t be possible; just try and send as much of the money as you can. Thanks!
  • Cheques can be made out to Olivet Wesleyan Youth; cash is also accepted.
  • That’s it! I know a lot of your teens have been working hard at raising lots of money, so thanks for your encouragement and help with this fundraiser!

The AfterMath — our brand new after-school program — starts this week! Here’s the scoop:

  •  Teens come to the church right after school
  • We hang out, have a devotional together, schedule time for homework and tutoring
  • We eat!
  • We help set up and prepare for the upcoming Shakedown night
It’s going to be great, so encourage your kids to attend!
