Paintball Trip

30 05 2008

When: Saturday, June 7th

We’re leaving @ 9:30am from the church, we’ll be back at app. 1:30pm. If you can drive or loan a vehicle, please let me know.

Where: Wilson’s Paintball in Burtts Corner

How Much: $30 (Covers rental of equipment and 200 paintballs. More paint costs $7/100 balls. I usually only use 200-300 per trip so this is optional)

Who: Everyone is welcome to come — all ages, males and females, etc. If you’re interested in coming, consider this your invite!

What: If you’re unfamiliar with Paintball, it’s a SAFE and FUN way of running around and shooting each other! :)  The teens are protected with face masks and are encouraged to wear long sleeves and pants. The paintball courses are well-run and have ‘referees’ that monitor every game. We’ve done this for the last 3 years and have had a blast every time.

Also — make sure your teen brings a bottle of water or two; they’ll need it.

The Aftermath

29 05 2008

Hey everyone!

Just a note — TODAY (May 29th) is the last day of the Aftermath!! Even though school is still happening for the next few weeks, we are unable to have the Aftermath in June due to staffing and scheduling issues.

It’s been a great two months of the Aftermath and I think it’s been a great success! Thanks for encouraging your teens to attend, and we’ll probably kick things off again in the Fall.

It would be great if you could spread the word to other parents — thanks!

Deep Water Weekend

27 05 2008

What It is:

We will be assisting with a Wesleyan church plant in Halifax called “Deep Water Church.” Led by AJ Thomas (the guy who used to run the Hillside Rally), Deep Water meets in a movie theater in the center of downtown Halifax and is intent on reaching those who wouldn’t normally find themselves in church.

What We Will Do:

A variety of things, but some of the main ministries: doing a prayer walk through the city, assisting with Feed Nova Scotia (food bank type organization) and leading the children’s program both Sunday morning with Deep Water and Sunday night with a partner church plant called PAX North. I’ll be preaching both services and we will also be assisting with the set-up and tear-down that comes with being a ‘portable’ church.

When, Who, How Much, Etc:

June 27-30

Right now, this is only open to Sr High teens due to the nature of what we will be doing, where we will be going, etc.

The cost is based on the number of teens who are able to attend. Because Deep Water doesn’t have a church home, we have to find lodging, buy our meals and so on. We are working on making this as cost-effective as we can, but it’s hard to stick a price on it until we have a better idea of how many will be attending. We are aiming for our approximate cost to be around $100-150.

This is an application process only. The application form is posted below. (Note: the dates on the application are incorrect — the correct dates are June 27-30). I hope you can encourage your teens to apply. This will be a significant and impacting weekend!

Everyday Sunday in Concert

15 05 2008

Hey Parents! Just wanted to give you an update on what’s happening at youth next week (May 22):

We are hosting a Christian rock band called Everyday Sunday from Columbus, Ohio (you can listen to them here) and it’s going to be awesome! These guys are a pretty big band in the States (they had the #1 most-played Christian rock song on the radio this past year!) and we want to have a HUGE crowd for this.

If you know of other families/teens from the city who would enjoy this, spread the word! We’re inviting as many churches and youth groups as we can (this is NOT just an Olivet event).

Tickets are $10 for Shakedown teens and they can be purchased at the door that night.

Thus — there is no regular youth night next week, and there is no AfterMath, either. Things will be back to normal for the following week!

Shakedown // Aftermath — May 8th

8 05 2008

We will have Everyday Sunday tickets on sale tonight and next week @ youth for only $10.

There will be NO Aftermath on May 22 due to the Everyday Sunday Concert (they will be setting up, doing sound check, and so on).

Also, we are requesting that every teen who comes to the Aftermath also brings a few dollars to help us offset the cost of the meals. If each teen paid even $3, it would be a huge help!

Thanks!

Youth is On!

1 05 2008

Even though schools are all cancelled, youth is on! The floodwaters won’t stop us! Well, unless the mighty Nashwaak rises a whole bunch and comes up the hill towards the church. But hopefully that won’t happen.
